Microcurrent Skin Lifting with LED Light Therapy

How does it work?
Microcurrent is scientifically proven treatment that emits electrical frequencies that mimic the bodies electrical signals while increasing the amount of ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate– the chemical fuel of human cells) by as much as 500%. The treatment re-energizes cells and tightens facial muscles by increasing muscle protein. It promotes the elimination of metabolic waste and impurities while helping the skin to rebuild its collagen and elastin. Consider this a workout for your face.

LED (light emitting diode) Therapy is a non-invasive procedure that activates skin cells with pulses of low-level, non-thermal light energy. This light energy produces wavelengths measured in nanometers that penetrate the skin to a depth of 8-10 mm. The light activates photoreceptors in the skin cells, producing energy for absorption. Studies have shown that skin cells grow 150-200% faster when exposed to certain LED light wavelengths. Independent research for over 40 years has shown LED red and infrared lights deliver powerful therapeutic benefits to living tissue. Because of their high blood and water content, the skins layers readily absorb the light and deliver enough energy to stimulate a response from the body to heal itself.

Benefits of Microcurrent Skin Lifting with LED Light Therapy:
Microcurrent: stimulates a small electric pulsation, imitating natural electric currents in the body. The gentle electric waves help to:

  • Eliminates toxins

  • Help mitochondria to generate more ATP- natural cells energy
  • Stimulates lymphatic drainage
  • Tightens, firms and lifts the skin-sagging jaws, double chin and fatty cheeks
  • Increase blood circulation

  • Microcurrent enables the brain to adjust itself by creating new brain wave patterns. Typical responses within the first few treatments are mental clarity, a sense of calmness, clearer senses, and more restorative sleep. Over 85% of patients notice a positive change within three to five sessions.

Diamond Tip Microdermabrasion
This method of microdermabrasion uses a diamond tipped wand with vacuum suction. While exfoliating the top layer of skin It vacuums the dead cells, blackheads, and impurities. This can
improve tone and texture while unveiling a brighter, clearer, and smoother complexion. Best of all, it requires zero downtime!

Benefits of Microdermabrasion:

  • Increase in Collagen and Elastin production
  • Improve age spots, blackheads, Milia, and congestion
  • Improve hyperpigmentation (patches of darkened skin)
  • Exfoliate your skin, resulting in a refreshed appearance
  • Lessen the appearance of stretch marks
  • Reduce fine lines and wrinkles
  • Reduce or eliminate enlarged pores
  • Treat acne and the scars left by acne
  • Helps with ingrown hairs (man beards)

Who is not Suitable for Microdermabrasion?

  • Pregnancy – An increase in hormones can affect the skin during pregnancy, this can cause pigmentation so for this reason not recommended.
  • Cancer – Should be in remission for at least 6 months prior to beginning a course of treatment. Microdermabrasion stimulates the blood flow or lymphatic drainage.
  • Grade 4 Acne – If the skin is very congested with pustules and papules treatment would irritate the skin and spread bacteria.
  • Accutane – Accutane causes thinning of the skin, you must wait 6 months after stopping.
  • Diabetes – Clients must supply written permission from their doctor.
  • Impetigo, Rosacea, Lupus
  • Circulatory conditions
  • High Blood Pressure

Minor Contraindications – affected areas will be avoided

  • Eye infections-Conjunctivitis, Styes, Cysts
  • Skin disorders- Active acne, Seborrheic Dermatitis, Herpes Simplex (cold sores), Eczema, Psoriasis
  • Keloid Scars
  • Telangiectasia (broken capillaries) Raised Moles, Warts, Skin Tags, Cuts, Bruises, Sunburn

Preparation
Because this treatment is designed to exfoliate your skin, you should avoid other exfoliating products like scrubs or mild Retin-A exfoliating cream for 2-3 days prior to your appointment. Clean your face with a gentle cleanser and keep it hydrated by applying a daily moisturizing cream and drinking a healthy amount of water. You should refrain from tanning, hair removal treatments like waxing and threading, for 3-4 weeks before your appointment. If you’ve recently had laser surgery or fillers, your doctor may recommend that you wait before scheduling your first appointment.

Risks and recovery of Microdermabrasion
Because there is no down time or recovery period following microdermabrasion, any discomfort experienced as part of microdermabrasion is usually short-lived. Side effects can include redness and swelling, which should subside within a few hours. There’s a small chance of bruising, which can occur from the suction and may last several days. Within a few days you can expect the skin to be flaky and dry so it’s important to use the recommended home care regimen to enhance and prolong your results.

Frequency and Results
This might be different from person to person depending on a few considerations but typically, you should have a microdermabrasion treatment every 2 to 4 weeks. This is going to help you maintain your results and keep that skin healthy and radiant. Between 6 to 12 sessions is going to give optimal results overall and can virtually transform the look and feel of your skin!

Aftercare
Because you’ll have a brand-new layer of skin at the end of your first appointment, it’s important that you follow these instructions as your skin heals. You will maximize your healing process and see the best results when you protect your new skin.

  • Don’t Forget Sunscreen: For the first 3 days after your appointment, plan to stay out of direct sunlight and wear plenty of sunscreen to shield your new skin from harmful UV rays. This step can promote healthier skin overall as it helps prevent signs of aging, uneven skin tone and spots, and even skin cancer. Always start your day with a layer of sunscreen and reapply every 4 hours as needed.
  • Avoid Irritation: As your skin heals, you should use gentle, products. Don’t use any exfoliating products for three days after your appointment. You should avoid touching, rubbing, or picking your skin, which can slow the healing process and can cause scaring. Finally, don’t use products with glycolic acid, retinol, benzoyl peroxide, or topical acne treatments for 24-48 hours (about 2 days) afterward.
  • Moisturize: One of the best parts of this treatment is how it transforms your skin. You’ll walk out of your appointment with the softest skin, and one way to keep it soft and smooth is by moisturizing often. Your new layer of skin is more receptive to moisture and will need more moisturizer than normal to aid in the healing process. Not moisturizing your skin can result in the recurrence of issues like dull patches or cracked, flaking skin. Moisturize your skin in the morning, at night, and throughout the day as needed if it begins to feel dry.
  • Cut Down on Caffeine: Coffee and tea are a must have in many busy lives, but the caffeine they hold is one of the main reasons for dehydrated skin. The rule of thumb is to consume 2 cups of water per cup your regular coffee or tea plus your normal water intake for the day.
  • Avoid getting overheated: During the first few days after your appointment, your skin will be more sensitive. Please avoid activities and heavy workouts that cause you to sweat for 24-48 hours after.
  • Avoid Alcohol: Alcohol can prolong the healing process. Its best to abstain from alcoholic beverages for 48 hours (about 2 days) after your appointment

Chemical Peels
Light chemical peels are a non-invasive treatment that removes the top layer of skin with the use of a chemical exfoliant such as glycolic acid (AHA), salicylic, acid (BHA) and enzyme peels, just to name a few. These peels help improve the texture and tone of your skin, giving you that healthy glow that you’ve been looking for.

Benefits of Chemical Peels:

  • Smooth skin tone and texture
  • Reduce fine lines
  • Correct skin damage
  • Reduce dark spots
  • Prevent breakouts
  • Boost collagen production
  • Diminish acne scars and enlarged pores
  • Improve rosacea
  • Brighten tattoos

Who is not Suitable for Chemical Peels?

  • Pregnant
  • Have a history of abnormal skin scarring (keloids).
  • Have extra coloring in your scars.
  • Have skin conditions or take medications that make your skin more sensitive (Accutane).
  • Unable to stay out of Sun for healing period.
  • Allergy to aspirin (salicylic acid)
  • Facial Cancers

Preparation
Preparing the skin pre-treatment is important and promotes the best results. There are several ways that you can prepare your skin for your peel, including:

  • Month Before Peel: A month before your peel, begin a new, regular skincare routine. Ideally, you want to select cleansers, moisturizers, and serums that have active ingredients that will complement the acid of your peel. Let me help you find the skincare products that best match the needs of your skin.
  • Weeks Before Peel: A week before your peel, it is recommended you postpone any cosmetic treatments using lasers or wax. It is also encouraged for you to limit your sun exposure.
  • Days Before Peel: About 2 to 3 days before your peel, its recommended to stop the use of skincare products having active ingredients such as Retinol, AHA, and BHA. And up your water intake to help your skin support the healing process.

Risks and Recovery of Chemical Peel
Possible side effects can include redness, dryness, itching or irritation as well as swelling, tightness, and peeling. With 2-3 days, skin may look flaky or darker as the outermost surface peels off to make space for new, radiant skin. You may also notice temporarily more pronounced discoloration or age spots as they rise to the skin’s surface before getting sloughed away.

Aftercare
Peeling or flaking of the skin often begins 48-72 hours (about 3 days) after your treatment and can last 2-5 days. It is especially important not to pick off peeling/flaking skin; should be minimal and can be controlled with moisturizer. Premature peeling of the skin can result in dry, cracked, raw skin that may develop into hyperpigmentation.

  • Wash your face with cool water. Warm or hot water might not feel as good as cool or cold water, which can help soothe post-peel sensations.
  • Moisturize and hydrate. Since peels can temporarily compromise your skin’s protective barrier, it’s important to reinforce that barrier with a medium-to-thick moisturizer. Also, drink more water to help avoid dehydration, which could make your skin feel tight.
  • Apply sunscreen with SPF30 or more. Your skin is more delicate after a peel, so avoid direct sun exposure, which can lead to even more visible signs of skin aging. If you must be exposed, use a Broad-Spectrum sunscreen.
  • Avoid intense workouts, dry saunas and steam rooms. Increased blood circulation to the face can intensify warming, tingling, itching, redness or other uncomfortable side effects on freshly peeled skin. Skip such activities on the day you use a peel.
  • Don’t over-exfoliate. Peels are maximum strength exfoliants, so you don’t need to use a separate exfoliant (like a scrub, brush or exfoliating cleanser) within 3-4 days of your peel. Over-exfoliating can lead to more redness or sensitivity, so wait until your skin feels up to it.

Frequency and Results
The number of peels needed to see results depends on the condition being treated. If you are treating concerns such as sun damage or acne, multiple peels will be needed. Some improvement will be seen after each peel, but it typically takes a series of 6 peels to see the full effect. You may receive a light peel once a month.
